Head of Plant Controlling — EMEA (10 plants)
Location: Flexible (frequent travel across plants)
Reports to: Regional CFO EMEA
Direct reports: 10 Plant Controllers (JOST Guiding Principles)
Role purpose:
Lead and professionalise Plant Controlling across 10 manufacturing sites in EMEA to deliver best-in-class margin performance, predictable forecasting, efficient working capital, robust cost governance and data-driven decision support.
Principal responsibilities:
- P&L ownership at plant network level: Consolidate, analyse and challenge plant P&Ls; drive margin improvement initiatives;
- Financial planning & forecasting: Own a rolling forecast process aligned to Group FP&A and local operations; shorten cycle time and increase forecast accuracy;
- Cost governance & performance management: Standardise cost definitions, implement robust variance analysis (material, labour, overhead etc.), and run monthly performance reviews with Plant Managers, COO EMEA and CFO EMEA;
- Working capital and inventory control: Drive inventory optimisation (days of inventory), scrap and obsolescence controls and cash-release programs;
- Capital allocation & CAPEX governance: Establish ROI/NPV thresholds and gate-reviews for plant CAPEX; monitor post-investment benefits;
- Systems & digitalisation: Lead roll-out and adoption of ERP/BI solutions (e.g., S/4HANA, Power BI etc.) for real-time plant finance insights;
- People leadership: Line manage plant controllers; build a high-performing, digitally capable controlling function;
- Stakeholder management: Act as finance business partner to Plant MDs, Operations, Procurement and Group Finance; present to the Regional CFO and EMEA Board as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Industrial Engineering;
- min. 10 years of experience in Controlling within a multinational manufacturing environment, preferably automotive or industrial OEM;
- proven experience as Plant Controller or Regional/Cluster Controller with multi-site responsibility;
- language skills: English mandatory, German advantageous;
- expert-level Microsoft Excel and data tools like Power BI;
- ERP experience: SAP R/3 and/or SAP S/4HANA;
- strong analytical skills and process driven know-how;
- good communication and collaboration skills;
- experience in supporting operational excellence programs, demonstrated track record in cost optimization and margin improvement initiatives.
